Bihar has a rich educational heritage to live up to. Universities like Nalanda and Vikramashila were known all over the world as seats of world class education. In the present times, Bihar is trying extremely hard to revive its lost glory. The government is taking up number of initiatives to make education more accessible to the people of the state.
Education System:
According to the Census, the literacy rate of Bihar is 63.82% for the year 2011 which shows a marked improvement from what it was in 2001. There has been an improvement of 16.82% which talks volumes about how serious the Bihar Government regarding improvement of the educational scenario of the state. The Education System of Bihar can be divided into eight tiers, namely: Pre-Primary, Primary, Elementary, Secondary, Senior Secondary, Junior college, Secondary education, and Degree level. The governing body for the State Schools is the Bihar Government. Apart from this, there are a number of schools that are affiliated under the CBSE and the ISCE Boards. There are district schools too in Bihar that are better known as Zila schools. These have been affiliated to the Bihar School Examination Board.
Method of admission for students in the universities of Bihar:
The Central University of Bihar grants the applicants admission on the basis of the All India Written Test. As far as the Rajendra Agricultural University is concerned, it admits 85% of its students through the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination.

Hostels and Accommodation: For the students who are not residents of Bihar, accommodation would never be a problem. Magadh University for instance has 8 hostels that accommodate around 1500 students. On the other hand Rajendra Agricultural University has 5 hostels (4 for boys and 1 for girls). The hostel rooms are clean and adequate security is available at the hostels. The hostels also have recreational facilities for the students so that they feel rejuvenated after a long day in class. There is provision for indoor games as well as a television set in the common rooms. The reading rooms are also well equipped with the latest journals and magazines.
