Singapore Education System :
Singapore Education is amulti-government agency initiative launched by the Singapore Government in 2003 to establish and promote Singapore as a premier education hub and help international students make an informed decision on studying in Singapore. This initiative is led by the Singapore Economic Development Board and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, SPRING Singapore, International Enterprise Singapore and the Ministry of Education. The following describes the key roles tha each agency plays in the arena of Singapore Education.
Higher Education:
Since 1965 education at all levels, including higher education, has grown exponentially. In 2000 Singapore had six Higher Education Institutions(HEIs). First, is the National University of Singapore (NUS) regarded as the flag ship of Singapore's education system. It has 8 faculties, 50 departments, 4 graduate schools, and 7 "specialist research instiutes" for advanced study and research in areas of "strategic importance to the nation's development." They are:
- Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology
- Institute of Micro-Electronics
- Institute os Systems Science
- National University Medical Institute
- Institute of Molecular Agro-Biology
- Data Storage Institute and the Institute for Materials Engineering and Research
